Oracle Primavera Cloud

Hero OPC

About this solution

Oracle has been a pioneer in project controls and planning since the early 1980s. It began with Primavera Project Planner (P3), launched in 1983, which became a standard for critical path scheduling in large-scale projects. In 2008, Oracle acquired Primavera Systems, Inc., and subsequently introduced Primavera P6, offering enhanced enterprise capabilities and web-based access. Building on this legacy, Oracle developed Primavera Cloud (OPC), a cloud-native platform that integrates portfolio planning, scheduling, cost management, risk analysis, and lean execution into a single solution.

OPC empowers project teams to plan, execute, monitor, and control every stage of the project lifecycle within a unified environment. With real-time visibility, integrated applications, and seamless collaboration, it helps organizations reduce risks, improve predictability, and deliver greater value from their projects. From idea generation to execution and handover, OPC supports all project stakeholders, making it a true enterprise-wide solution.

At Proove, we help clients unlock the full potential of Oracle Primavera Cloud by aligning the solution with their organizational processes and project goals. Our approach ensures OPC becomes a true accelerator for project success, supported by a scalable implementation and practical team enablement.

Why Oracle Primavera Cloud?

Oracle Primavera Cloud is organized around a set of powerful, modular applications. Each app plays a distinct role in enabling full project and portfolio lifecycle management. Below is an overview of some of the core apps.

Schedule App

The Schedule app provides the core scheduling engine within OPC, supporting full critical path method (CPM) logic. Users can define activities, assign relationships and constraints, and allocate resources to build a robust, logic-driven project plan. Baselines and scenarios can be created for what-if analysis. Schedulers also benefit from built-in schedule quality checks to ensure planning consistency and identify data gaps before execution begins.

Scope App

This app allows users to define, structure, and track project deliverables. Scope items can be defined with measurable quantities or weighted milestones. These can be linked to schedule activities and rolled up to calculate physical progress, improving visibility into real execution status. Changes to scope baselines can be managed and monitored, providing traceability throughout the project lifecycle.

Resources App

The Resources app enables centralized definition and management of labor, equipment, and roles across projects. It supports resource assignment to schedule activities, time-distributed labor budgeting, and built-in resource leveling to resolve overallocation issues. Capacity planning and forecasting at project and enterprise level help ensure efficient resource utilization.

Cost and Funds App

This app supports detailed cost control through the use of cost breakdown structures (CBS). Users can manage project budgets, capture actuals, handle budget changes and transfers, and forecast project cost at completion. Integration with ERP systems enables alignment with financial workflows. Cost elements can be linked directly to scope and schedule, ensuring consistency across planning dimensions.

Risk App

With a full-featured risk register and workflow engine, the Risk app allows teams to identify, evaluate, and mitigate project risks. Risks can be categorized and prioritized, assigned owners, and tracked through mitigation actions. The app also includes Monte Carlo simulation capabilities for time and cost, helping quantify project contingencies. Proove’s own weather modeling extension can further enhance schedule realism.

OPC Licensing Overview

Oracle Primavera Cloud offers four distinct licenses to match different roles within a project organization. Each license provides access to specific apps, pages, and mobile functionalities based on the user’s responsibilities.

Schedule License: this license is designed for expert schedulers who need full access to planning and control features. It includes the Schedule app, which supports full CPM scheduling with activity logic, dependencies, constraints, and resource assignments. Users can perform detailed planning, baseline management, and critical path analysis. It also includes the Task (Lean) app for managing daily and short-term planning.

Portfolio Planning License: ideal for portfolio managers and strategic planners, this license enables proposal evaluation, strategic alignment scoring, portfolio optimization, and governance through dashboards and scorecards. Users can define strategic goals and link projects and proposals to organizational objectives.

Progress License: this lightweight license is intended for team members who only need to view and update their assigned activities. It includes access to progress reporting and timesheet entry, making it ideal for site users or task owners.

Task Management License: this license supports teams working with Lean methodologies. It includes access to the Task (Lean) app, enabling digital post-it style planning, daily coordination, and commitment-based execution tracking. Since 2024, Lean functionality is included in the Schedule License, but can still be purchased separately for standalone use.

Each license ensures that users see only the tools relevant to their role, reducing complexity while enabling deep functionality where needed.
